چکیده

The potential amplification of primordial seed magnetic fields by gravitational waves was discussed in [1], wherein a mechanism was proposed and an amplification of several orders of magnitude was obtained. Recently, this mechanism was revisited in [2] and the original results were recovered both qualitatively and quantitatively. Despite this, the comparison of the two papers is misleading and reaches erroneous conclusions that need to be clarified. Relatively recently, a scenario for the amplification of primordial, inflation produced magnetic seeds through gravitational wave interactions was proposed in the literature [1]. The mechanism operates soon after inflation and within standard electromagnetic theory. This purely gravitational strengthening of the initial field can be quite substantial when the two sources have comparable wavelengths (see [1] for details). The main results of [1] are given in Eqs. (21) and (25). These are summarised in the expression (see Eq. (26) in [1]) B ρ 1/2 γ ≃ [ 1 + 10 ( λB̃ λH 2 0 ( σ H )

On “Primordial magnetic seed field amplification by gravitational waves”

We consider the amplification of cosmological magnetic fields by gravity waves as it was recently presented in [1]. The latter study confined to infinitely conducting environments, arguing that on spatially flat Friedmann backgrounds the gravito-magnetic interaction proceeds always as if the universe were a perfect conductor. We explain why this is not the case and then re-examine the Maxwell-W...

Resonant amplification of magnetic seed fields by gravitational waves in the early universe

Inflation is known to produce both gravitational waves and seed magnetic fields on scales well beyond the size of the horizon. The general relativistic study of the interaction between these two sources after the end of inflation, showed a significant amplification of the initial magnetic seed which brought the latter within the currently accepted dynamo limits. In the present article we revisi...

Light amplification by gravitational waves in scalar–tensor theories of gravity

It is shown that the amplification of a light beam by gravitational waves in scalar–tensor theories of gravity is a first order effect in the wave amplitudes. In general relativity, instead, the effect is only of second order. To appear in Astrophysical Letters and Communications Scalar–tensor theories (ST) of gravity have been considered as alternatives to general relativity (GR) for a long ti...

Cosmological Magnetic Fields vs . CMB

I present a short review of the effects of a cosmological magnetic field on the CMB temperature and polarization anisotropies. Various possibilities for constraining the magnetic field amplitude are discussed. Cosmological primordial seed magnetic fields were proposed to explain the existence of observed ∼ 10 −6 G magnetic fields in galaxies and clusters (see, e.g., Widrow 2002, Gio-vaninni 200...

Protostellar Disk Dynamos and Hydromagnetic Outflows in Primordial Star Formation

Star formation occurs via accretion through a disk, which is likely to be turbulent, either because of gravitational or magnetorotational instability. Dynamo amplification of magnetic fields needs to be considered. As the disks are also stratified, the turbulence can be helical, with different signs of the helicity in each hemisphere. This provides a key ingredient for amplification of global s...
